ISGAR QUESTIONS POSSIBLE
DRIVER'S LICENSE BUREAU CLOSINGS
DMV to possibly close offices in Nucla and Pagosa Springs
DENVER—Unfortunately, the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicle is closing driver's identification bureaus in Nucla and Pagosa Springs, Colorado, effective July 31. According to the Division of Motor Vehicle, Pagosa had 1,238 customers in FY 2006 and Nucla had 227.
Senator Jim Isgar (D-Hesperus) who represents the district in which two offices may be closing gave the following statement:
My first question to the Colorado Department of Revenue and the Governor's office is we passed Referendum C to keep DMV offices open, yet why are they closing offices now.
The office in Nucla is being moved two hours away to Montrose, Colorado, which would translate to a four hour round trip for the citizens of Nucla. This drive is also across two other counties.
I want to know why the citizens of Southwest Colorado are being forced to travel all across the state to obtain driving identification. It troubles me that as of today I have not received a clear answer from either the Colorado Department of Revenue or the Governor's office.
